One Anime Trumps the Cosplay Scene in 2018 MCM London Comic Con

Posted by Sam Lin on

2108 MCM Comic Con in London has now come to an end and it was such a blast! This year we saw a facelift to the event. In addition to the usual stands featuring comic books, toys, games and street food, we also saw great participation from brands such as Funko!, Amazon, Bandai, Crunchyroll in this year’s Comic Con. The experience has definitely been enriched comparing to the past few years with fancier games on display, live game competition, greater fan interaction, and guests such as Rosario Dawson and Letitia Wright that fans in London just wouldn’t normally have the pleasure meeting.

This year we also saw fans taking cosplay to the next level. Marvel heroes and Star War Troopers had increased in size and armours properly upgrade. Disney princesses and Game of Throne are also among the most popular characters. This said, Genkisan has witnessed, finally, anime fans gradually taking part in the centre stage. Not only we saw the number of classic anime cosplay characters such as Goku, Naruto, Sasuke and Pokemon continues to win our fans over, we have also seen the characters from the likes of One Piece, Attack on Titan, Bleach, Classroom Assassination, One Punch Man on the rise.

Among all, one anime definitely has stood out in this year’s MCM London Comic Con - My Hero Academia. In our unofficial poll, Izuku Midoriya has won the number one spot in the most popular anime cosplay character this year. The unique high school uniform and quirky green hair (as well as Shoto's half white half red) could be seen across the entire Comic Con floor. No wonder it has also risen to the number one spot on Crunchyroll’s most popular anime recently.

Given the success this early summer in London, we anticipate great things later this year in October. There is no doubt we will see greater participation from both brands and fans. Hopefully we should also see a tighter control on the vendors who are selling bootlegs. (especially those Goku figures who have somehow managed to get their hands on Gomu Gomu no Mi….)

Be sure to check our Genkisan shop for the latest anime figures! We will see you all anime fans later this year!
